Safe and Caring Schools
Purpose
The Jones County Public School system, its students, parents and staff work in partnership to support and improve teaching and learning through a variety of programs and activities promoting the safety and well being of all students. These efforts include:
Improving instruction through effective reforms and best practices
Promotion of wellness through good nutrition and physical activity and school-health programs
Equipping children with knowledge and skills to make wise choices
Maintaining safe learning environments
Whole School Whole Child Whole Community
The goal is to create students who are healthier, in school, in class, and ready to learn. Students who are healthier are more alert, more focused on learning, and miss less school. They not only learn better in every class, but they also learn lifelong healthy behaviors. It just makes sense. The education, public health, and school health sectors have each called for greater alignment that includes, integration and collaboration between education leaders and health sectors to improve each child’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. Public health and education serve the same children, often in the same settings. The Whole School Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model focuses on the child to align the common goals of both sectors to put into action a whole child approach to education.
