The Prom was great fun, and a lot of hard work.  Thanks to Mrs. Shaw and the Prom Committee for all their hard work, and to Col Parnell, his mother, and all the teachers who came out to help set up.  Well done. See Pictures

Jones Senior High is Going Digital!

Students next school year Jones Senior will be implementing a laptop technology initiative. Every student at JSHS will be issued a laptop to use. You will be taking them home and bringing them to school everyday. It is our dream that this will put our students and this county on the cutting edge of technology, and promote positive change in our students.  Jones Senior teachers recently received new Macbooks, and two days of Macbook training in preparation for the 1:1 initiative. Soon it will our students turn to receive laptops.

Mr. Cleven Koonce

Mr. Clevean

By B Murphrey

If you see Mr. Cleaven Koonce working about Jones Senior’s  campus, please take a moment to say "hi," and thank him for helping to keep Jones Senior a clean and healthy place.  He works long after the last of us have gone home.  In fact, he does not usually finish cleaning and securing the school until after 9:00 pm.  When there is a game in the gym, he has to clean up after the game is over.

He is a professional in his field and finds his work rewarding.  He has been working for Jones County Schools over eight (8) years, but he has work in a Janitorial position most of his life.  He is a calm person who enjoys working hard.  He is married to a beautiful wife and they have raised two step-daughters.

Cleaning this school is a lot of hard work. If we could be more respectful and clean up after themselves, it would make his job easier.  It would also, leave him more time to do other things around the school that need to be done.

Some of his other jobs include changing the filters in the air conditioning, and heating units, fixing electrical problems, and moving furniture. Let's  be more  aware of how important his work is to this school.  Let's give him the credit and respect he so richly deserves. Next time you see someone throw milk and juice cartons on the ground, ask them to think about who will have to pick it up.

 Career Day

Career Day was held Thursday afternoon, April 26 at Jones Senior.  The turn out was excellent and Jones Senior students learned a lot about what jobs are available in the area.  They also learned valuable information on what type of training or education they will need to get the job they want. Ms. Veronica Murrell

Ms. Veronica Murrell is a versatile person. She is very smart and has worked at a lot of different jobs. Before she came to Jones County Schools, she worked in manufacturing for 26 years.

She came to Jones county schools in 2006 after her sister told her that Jones County Schools had an opening. She started in the cafeteria at Trenton middle school and later moved to her present position.  She enjoys working, and loves cleanliness. That makes her a perfect fit for Jones Senior.  She has been taking care of us and Jones Senior for three years.

When she is not working here, she enjoys spending time with her family and gardening.  She likes to plant flowers in her yard and watch them grow.

She, also, loves to sing.  In fact, she sings in the St. Mathews AMTZ Zion Church choir in Trenton.

In addition, she loves animals. She has six cats who always greet her when she comes home.

When asked what Jones Senior students could do to make her job easier, she told me that she wished children were more respectful, and that they would take their plates and trays off the table and clean up after themselves.
