Hello my name is Sylvia Ervin,
I have been a Jones County resident for 26 years. I am married to a wonderful man, James Ervin Jr. I have two lovely children, who attended school in Jones County. My daughter is a student at Brookstone Business college with honors. My son was valedictorian at Jones senior high school in 2007. He received a full academic scholarship at North Carolina State University in the electrical Engineer field. He is presently a student at NC State with honors. I am also a grandmother of a beautiful little girl, that is the heart of my life. She keeps me on my toes. I am a proud parent and grandmother.
I have worked in the Jones County School System for 24 plus years as a bus driver and teacher assistant and still present. Being part of the school system I have had some special people in my life that cared, and gave me some encouraging advice.One day these special people asked me why want you go to college to become a teacher? However, that was the last thing on my mind going to college. I can say those words really stuck with me and I decide to go back to college. I needed to give back to my county in which I live.I am glad I went back.I enjoy working with children. In 2008 I went back to school and received my BS degree in Early Childhood Education in May, 2010. The year I graduated I received a job as a Kindergarten teacher at Trenton Elementary. I am now at Maysville Elementary school as a Pre- Kindergarten teacher with a new family, that I am enjoying. I cannot forget my assistant Mrs. Mechell Pickett who is wonderful. She helps me keep the students on the right track to success.
