Maysville Elementary School made Adequate Yearly Progress and High Growth for the 2010-2011 school year, and is a School of Distinction!
Maysville Elementary has been chosen to participate in the United States Department of Agriculture Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program for School Year 2011-2012. Fresh fruits and vegetables will be available to students each day, to create a healthier school environment. Maysville Elementary School is the only public school in the rural town of Maysville, NC and one of six schools in Jones County. Our school has a population of 140+ students, serving grades Pre-Kindergarten through Six. Our student demographics is made up of 51% African American, 44% Caucasian, <1% Multiracial, and <1 Hispanic. Maysville Elementary is a school-wide Title I program with a population of 84% enrolled in the School Lunch Program (July 2011).

Our small population of 140+ students creates an ideal setting for a model community school. Class size is lower than the state average with each class receiving services from a teacher assistant for a portion of the school day. Our teaching staff is represented by 100% highly qualified personnel with four higher level degrees and one national board certified teacher. We have a physical education teacher serving each student once a day, two and a half days a week. We offer encore classes of character education, media skills, music, and technology once a week. An average of three computers are located in each classroom along with interactive SMART Boards and SMART Response Systems. The computer lab is an excellent resource for classroom projects and curriculum-based tutorials and testing.
This is our third year of implementing our Positive Behavior Intervention Program, PBIS and RTI, Response to Instruction. We maintain a high safe school rating and provide a tremendous resource for the community in the form of buildings, playfields, and programs. Our school is AdvancEd (SACS) accredited with district renewal granted in Fall, 2008.
Our community is made of a close-knit group of parents who are friends, relatives, and neighbors. Parents have been very supportive of our school uniform policy, as well as the numerous programs offered during and after school. We enjoy and appreciate services from our community such as Subway, Pop's Diner, Andy's, Hardees, Piggly Wiggly, Local Churches, Maysville Garden Club, and the Maysville Rotary Club. Together we make a difference!
