Welcome to the Maysville Elementary School Media Center where students are encouraged to read to help them grow to their fullest potential. The MES media center is open at all times. If you come to check out a book and the media specialist is not there, select your book and wait at the desk someone will be there to assist you shortly.
Students are reminded to take AR tests and check out new books regularly. Students in grades k-1 should check out one book per week (unless otherwise instructed by their teacher). Grades 2nd -3rd may check out 2 books per week. Students in grades 3-6 should have at least two chapter books always, they are not allowed to check out books from the easy section.
Please be very careful with all materials checked out from the Media Center, we have had to replace several books that were damaged over the years, remember the rules for handling books and take extra special care of paperback books. Magazines are to be viewed in the library only. Students may check out materials from the reference section for over night use only.
If you check out a book and it has not been properly identified as an AR Book search
www.arbookfind.com to locate the quiz number and level. If there is a quiz on the book we should have it in our AR system.
MES students should pay attention when taking STAR test and the change in reading level of the books they can read and test, STAR test results are used to determine reading levels. Students should take at least two tests per week to meet your goal. Students who bring their reading logs with them to check out books and can prove they scored an 85% or above will be awarded with a Read Every Day prize. Students in grades 5 and 6 are reminded that they are to bring their reading logs to the media center when checking out books also.
Do not forget, reading is your key to a successful future so, Read! Read! Read!
