What is the Butterfly Method?

The butterfly method is another way to solve fraction addition and subtraction problems with unlike denominators.

The example given below demonstrates a simple addition problem.  After cross-multiplying, add the antenna answers together (subtract for a subtraction problem) for the numerator (top number of the fraction) and multiply the bottom to find the denominator (bottom number of the fraction).

After creating the new fraction answer, don't forget to reduce your final answer.
